Learning Objectives: This computer literacy course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of computers and information processing. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have an understanding of hardware and software concepts and their relationship to information systems as well as an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of using a personal computer. The scope of this course traces the evolution of the development of the modern computer and the emergence of the computer in society. Considerable emphasis is placed on the operation and terminology of computer systems. Objectives for the student are given at the start of each chapter. These objectives state the concepts reviewed in each chapter. A companion lab manual provides detailed instructions in how to use the various software programs included in this course.
Required Materials: "Visualizing Technology" by Debra Geoghan will be used as the textbook and a related lab manual as well as the MyItLab software (access code is part ofthe textbook purchase) will be used for on-line assignments.
Technical Requirements: 3 exams, 10 homework assignments, completion of MyItLab assignments and a presentation to your classmates using the Power Point software.
